TRAINING AND PRACTICE: EQUIPPING OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY WITH FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE SKILLS

Ensuring students’ safety is an essential part of creating a secure, caring, and supportive learning environment. With this commitment, Yen Hoa Primary School organised a training and practice session on Basic first aid and Emergency response skills for the school’s administrators, teachers, and staff.

Mr. Dinh Van Hung, Head of the Training Department at the Vietnam Institute for Safety Education, brought many useful and valuable insights and practical sharing to the training session.

Ensuring students’ safety is an essential part of creating a secure, caring, and supportive learning environment. With this commitment, Yen Hoa Primary School organised a training and practice session on Basic first aid and Emergency response skills for the school’s administrators, teachers, and staff.

The programme provided practical knowledge and hands-on experience to help staff respond more confidently and appropriately to emergency situations that may occur in the school environment. It also contributed to strengthening a culture of safety, preparedness, and responsibility across the school community.

Building essential first aid skills

During the session, teachers were introduced to basic knowledge and procedures for responding to burns, from recognising the signs of a burn and providing appropriate initial first aid to understanding important precautions that can help minimise injury.

Through hands-on practice, teachers were able to reinforce the techniques they had learned and develop greater confidence in staying calm and responding appropriately when an incident occurs.

Another key focus was first aid for children who are choking on a foreign object. Teachers were guided in recognising warning signs, assessing a child’s condition, and practising appropriate first-aid techniques.

Equipping teachers with these essential skills enables them to respond more proactively and appropriately to potential emergencies and strengthens the school’s capacity to protect and care for students.

Developing children’s safety and self-escape awareness

Beyond first aid, the training also addressed self-escape skills for situations in which a child may be at risk of being restrained or abducted.

Through simulated scenarios, teachers practised recognising potential danger, seeking help, and guiding children in basic principles of self-protection and avoiding unsafe situations. These skills are an important part of helping adults provide children with appropriate guidance and support when faced with unexpected risks.

Learning through practice

A key strength of the programme was the combination of practical guidance and hands-on practice. Rather than simply listening to instructions, teachers actively practised techniques and responded to different simulated situations under the guidance of the instructor.

This practical approach allowed teachers to consolidate their knowledge, build confidence, and develop a greater sense of readiness to respond effectively should a real-life emergency arise.

Building a safer school environment

The training session provided administrators, teachers, and staff with practical knowledge and valuable experience, while strengthening their awareness and sense of responsibility in caring for and protecting students.

At Yen Hoa Primary School, being proactive in prevention, remaining calm in an emergency, and applying appropriate response skills are important elements of building a safe, friendly, and happy learning environment where students can learn and grow with confidence.
